West continues Canon Cup command
Tuesday, July 28, 2009
Continuing its decade of dominance Tuesday, the West AJGA Canon Cup team took an 11 1/2-3 1/2 lead after the first day of competition at Forest Highlands Golf Club.
The West, which leads the all-time series 10-8-1, has lost only twice this decade, by one point in 2004 and four points in 2000.
The West, 30-20 winners last year at The Stanwich Club in Greenwich, Conn., has blown out the East in five of its last seven victories, winning by an average of over 10 points during that stretch.
Noticeably missing from the Ryder Cup-style event this year are some of the top juniors in the country, who chose instead to play in the Junior PGA Championship, which moved up its date this summer and began today in Ohio.
