Duval wreaks havoc in crowd
DUBLIN, Ohio – From 5-under and a two-stroke lead, things changed dramatically – and in a hurry for David Duval.
Perhaps Duval got a sense that he was in store for a back-nine 40 with his tee shot at the 10th. It not only went wide right, but it struck a person in the head and opened a bit of a gash. Duval made bogey there, then at the par-5 11th as he took a practice swing before his third shot out of thick rough, his divot went flying backward and nearly dropped into a man’s cup of coffee.
Folks in the gallery laughed, as did Duval, but at the next hole, the par-3 12th, there was no such humor. That’s because Duval went long and left, made double-bogey and was now five behind Luke Donald. Duval drifted even further back when he double-bogeyed the par-4 17th, but still, the round of 71 was one of the day’s better efforts.
