Montgomerie calls for help
Monday, June 8, 2009
Colin Montgomerie wants Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn and Paul McGinley to act as Ryder Cup vice captains next year when the Scotsman leads Europe’s bid to regain the cup. They want to be at Celtic Manor, not as part of Monty’s back-room staff but as members of the team.
“If I don’t make the team, I am happy to help; but if I am, then I will obviously play,” said Bjorn, who last played in the match in 2002.
McGinley played in three consecutive matches from 2002 but did not make last year’s team.
“I really want to make the team,” McGinley said. “I think Monty is going to be a great captain and I would love to play under him.”
