Fashion Spotlight: Laura Ormson, Wear to Win
Tuesday, June 9, 2009
Calling all young ladies: There is finally a clothing line made just for you. Laura Ormson, together with her mother, Cindy, have done what a lot of girl golfers dream of doing one day (I know I did) in making a golf clothing line specifically for young women.
IT ALL STARTED when Ormson was playing junior golf. She said she often felt uncomfortable, self-conscious and unfashionable – but who knew this problem would turn into a great idea for a business one day?
Ormson launched her first Wear to Win line this week.
Although she only will be a senior on the Wake Forest golf team this fall, she is pouring her heart and soul into the line and continues to make sacrifices that a normal 21-year-old might not experience.
Originally from Granger, Ind., Ormson said she must remain extremely organized to balance her time between school, college golf, friends and her newfound passion, Wear to Win. She said Wake Forest, her hometown, family and friends have all been a huge help in propelling this line to where it is today and that she is thankful for all the guidance and support she has received.
“We just do what we have to do to get it done,” Ormson said, which is no exaggeration considering research for her big idea only went into action about two years ago.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Wear to Win is full of color, patterns, pleats, ruffles and – what we think is most important – is made of durable, moisture-wicking material that is both sporty and practical. Three different styles of skorts – the Jessica, the Annie and the Sandie – each will have varying colors and styles for mixing and matching. Laura, Cindy and their Chicago-based designer ensured that the clothing will be flattering for all sizes and body types (sizes will run 0-16), durable for all types of weather, appropriate for some of those strict dress code regulations and also convenient for golfers with large, strategically-placed pockets and low-wrinkle material. The line also will include two sleeveless shirts (black and white to start) made of moisture-wicking mesh featuring rouching, ruffled sleeves and golf club zippers. Additions to the line will continue with more shirts, vests, rain gear, skort designs and rhinestone belts by the end of the summer.
WHERE TO BUY IT: Check out Wear to Win for this brand new clothing line. The site also includes blogs, articles, book recommendations and player profiles, all targeted toward the junior girl golfer
