Spain’s Carlota Ciganda and Azahara Munoz (pictured) will be the top seeds in the match play portion of the Ladies’ British Amateur Championship after tying for first in the 36-hole qualifier.
The former Arizona State teammates finished at 8-under 138 to lead the 137-player field.
Ciganda had five birdies and an eagle in her second-round 68 to go along with a pair of bogeys, while Munoz also finished with five birdies, leading to her second consecutive 69.
Ciganda’s eagle came on the 434-yard, par-5 12th hole which she eagled in both rounds. She will be the No. 1 overall seed in match play because of her lower second round score.
Sweden’s Camilla Lennarth and England’s Holly Clyburn tied for third, finishing five shots back, and first-round leader Aedin Murphy of Ireland turned in a second-round 80 to fall back into a tie for 12th.
Switzerland’s Sherlyn Popelka, Italy’s Giulia Molinaro and Spain’s Ane Urchegul all finished at 8-over 154, but were eliminated in a 9-for-6 playoff which trimmed the field to the top 64 players heading into match play.
