Golfweek’s Best deals: Minnesota
Monday, June 15, 2009
The golf season is short throughout Minnesota but particularly so on the northeastern Iron Range – unfortunate because that’s where you’ll find the state’s top two public-access courses.
So it doesn’t pay to loiter when the Golfweek’s Best No. 1-ranked Wilderness at Fortune Bay (pictured) in Tower and the No. 2 Quarry Course at Giant’s Ridge in nearby Biwabik are offering more deals than ubiquitous television pitchman Billy Mays.
It normally costs $94 to play The Wilderness on the weekend. Through Sept. 6, you can play it twice and get an overnight stay at Fortune Bay Resort for $223 – only $35 more than for the cost of golf alone.
At Giant’s Ridge, a weekend round on the Quarry will run you $89. For $189, they’ll throw in an overnight stay at the Lodge at Giant’s Ridge and a steak or walleye dinner.
Well, don’t just sit there. Move fast, or the only thing you’ll be able to book will be a cross-country skiing package.
