Barnes breaks 36 hole record

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Ricky Barnes’ 132 total is a new record for low opening 36 holes at the U.S. Open. Another record has a chance to fall, as well. Amateur Nick Taylor is at 2-under 138 after his second-round 65; Jack Nicklaus holds the record for low 72 holes by an amatuer at the Open with a 282 total at Cherry Hills Golf Club in 1960. Nicklaus finished second that year.
