TOKYO – Japanese teen golfer Ryo Ishikawa has received a special invitation to play in the PGA Championship.
“I received the news today; I’m very happy,” Ishikawa, 17, said Tuesday.
Ishikawa, a two-time winner on the Japanese tour, has missed three of four cuts in PGA Tour events this year. His results: Northern Trust Open (MC), Transitions Championship (71st), Arnold Palmer Invitational (MC) and the Masters (MC).
The PGA championship will be held Aug. 13-16 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.
“My impression is that it’s an extremely tough layout,” Ishikawa said, “and I will aim as high as I can.”
