Alabama rebounded from a disappointing first round to post a tournament-best 1-over 285 in the second round of the NCAA Men’s Northeast Regional and finish the day in second place.

Freshman Bud Cauley led the way for the Crimson Tide with a 4-under 67 – a 12-shot improvement from his first-round 79 – and is tied for ninth at 4-over 146. Teammate Hunter Hamrick is tied for fifth.

Tennessee kept its lead in the team race with a 3-over 287 to carry a five-shot lead heading into the final round. Darren Renwick is tied for second at 1-over 143 and just one shot behind individual leader John Hahn of Kent State who shot 67.

Virginia continues to surprise. The ninth-seeded Cavaliers are third, five shots better than fourth-place Wake Forest. Illinois rounds out the top 5 teams.

Top-seeded Clemson struggled again. The Tigers’ second-round 299 was 11 shots better than their first round, but they’re in danger of missing out on the national championship. They are ninth at 41-over 609.

Wisconsin’s Dan Woltman, who is playing as an individual, is tied for second. The next best individual is UNC’s Kevin O’Connell, who is 10 shots back in a tie for 31st.
