Doctors replace Funk’s ailing right knee
Fred Funk underwent surgery to replace his right knee Nov. 16 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.
Funk, 53, battled knee problems for much of 2009. He had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in May 2008 before returning to play a month later.
According to Funk’s wife, Sharon, through the Champions Tour media department, there was a lot of scar tissue and arthritis and no cartilage in Funk’s knee area.
Funk is scheduled to be hospitalized for two or three more days. He will start rehab as soon as possible and should be able to start hitting balls in about six weeks, the tour said. Funk is aiming to return at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship in Hawaii early next year.
Funk had one victory in 21 starts this season on the Champions Tour and earned $1.56 million.
