Perry will play Presidents Cup despite mother’s death
Monday, January 31, 2011
Kenny Perry’s mother, Mildred, has died after a long battle with blood cancer, the golfer’s agent told Golfweek.
“At the urging of his father and other family members, Kenny is going to compete in the Presidents Cup next week,’’ Alan Bullington confirmed via text message.
Perry, 49, is part of the U.S. team that will face an International squad next week at Harding Park in San Francisco.
Bullington released an official statement on behalf of the Perry family: “While Kenny is deeply saddened by the loss of his mother, he and the entire Perry family are finding comfort in knowing that after a lengthy battle with cancer, her suffering has now ended. Competing in the Presidents Cup next week will undoubtedly be an emotional challenge for Kenny, but he knows his mother and his father will find joy in watching him play.’’
