Connelly wins LPGA Sectional Qualifier

Stephanie Connelly won an LPGA Sectional Qualifier at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Fla., on Friday. Connelly, who graduated from UCF in May, shot 3-under 285 to win by a shot.
Gwladys Nocera, who has three top-5 finishes on the Ladies European Tour this year and represented Europe in the Solheim Cup, finished second at 2-under 286. Briana Vega, who made seven of 18 cuts on the Duramed Futures Tour this season, came in third at 1-under 287. No other golfer finished under par for the qualifier.
Tiffany Joh, a two-time winner of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links (2006, 2008) who graduated from UCLA in May, tied for fourth with Lauren Doughtie at even par.
Cathryn Bristow, who played last year for Oregon, was the low amateur at the qualifier and tied for sixth.
Maria Hernandez, who won the NCAA Championship in May as a senior at Purdue, also made it through the qualifier, shooting 6 over to finish 22nd.
