EmailOCALA, Fla. – Mina Hardin shot a 3-under 69 on Sunday to share medalist honors at the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur at Golden Hills Golf and Turf Club.
The 49-year-old Hardin, a reinstated amateur from Fort Worth, Texas, who was the first Mexican player on the LPGA, matched Laura Ladden of Coatesville, Pa.; Jennifer Lucas of Knoxville, Tenn.; and 2006 and 2007 winner Meghan Stasi of Oakland Park, Fla., at 2-over 146. Ladden shot a 71, and Lucas and Stasi had 73s.
Hardin has been slowed by a hip injury.
“I’m very pleased with my round, especially because I’m nursing an injury and haven’t been able to practice,” said Hardin, the runner-up in 2002. “Today it was a little better. I feel normal.”
Carol Semple Thomson, the 60-year-old star from Sewickley, Pa., shot an 80 to tie for 56th at 17 over. Thompson won the event in 1990 and 1997.
The top 64 qualified for match play in the tournament for players 25 and older.
