The Presidents Cup has officially begun

SAN FRANCISCO – You could say that the eighth edition of the Presidents Cup is officially under way, now that the two captains, Fred Couples and Greg Norman, have provided their first on-site news conference here at Harding Park.
The fact that it provided more twists and turns than you’ll encounter even on nearby Lombard Street was hardly a surprise, given the colorful personalities of those captains.
The highlights were many, but of particular interest was Norman’s reaction to questions (three, if you’re counting) surrounding the report of his separation from his wife of 15 months, Chris Evert.
“I’m not going to talk about any of that personal life right now,” Norman said to each attempt.
While Evert is not going to be part of the proceedings here, another sports icon, Michael Jordan, will be. As one of Couples’ assistant captains, no less. What sort of role will he have?
“He’s out there walking around with some guys right now,” Couples said.
Sounds like an important job, walking around, but wait, there’s more. “His role is to have fun with the guys,” Couples added.
And to keep the hard news coming, here’s another bulletin that the captains unfolded: Former President Clinton asked to meet with Camilo Villegas. Why? “President Clinton is a huge fan of Colombia,” Norman said.
Feel free to add your own punch lines, but bottom line is this: The Presidents Cup has begun.
