Q-School: Potter wins Lakeland qualifier
Ted Potter went 20 under at Grasslands Golf and Country Club in Lakeland, Fla., to win the first stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School by four shots Friday. After opening with a 2-under 70, he closed 66-66-66 for the title.
Potter captured Player of the Year honors on the NGA Hooters Tour this year for the second time in his career, and fell just short of breaking Chad Campbell’s single-season earnings record.
Ty Tryon, the former teenage phenomenon, tied for fourth in Lakeland at 15-under 273. Tryon had a second-round 62 that helped him easily move into the second stage of qualifying.
Vaughn Snyder, a recent Ohio State graduate who also qualified for the U.S. Open, was at 12-under 276 and finished seventh.
