Secret’s in sauce for Stricker, Verplank

NORTON, Mass. — Forget the latest swing tip. You want to go low? Try lobster ravioli.
It was the meal of choice for both Scott Verplank and Steve Stricker Thursday night and all they did in the first round of the Deutsche Bank Championship was combine for 15 birdies and 14-under.
Stricker shot 63, Verplank 65 at TPC Boston.
They went out together for the meal, but despite the apparent birdie-fuel it provided, Verplank claims he will be switching his cuisine tonight. Seems he didn’t feel well Thursday night and while he wasn’t blaming the meal, he’s not exactly convinced that the three hours of sleep he got was much of a help.
