Wyatt takes commanding Junior Players lead
Friday, September 4, 2009
Bobby Wyatt jumped out to a quick lead today at the Junior Players Championship, putting three shots between himself and the next closest player.
Wyatt fired a 6-under 66 at TPC Sawgrass (Stadium Course) in Ponte Vedra Beach, with his single bogey coming at the par-4 10th hole. Wyatt, of Mobile, Ala. kept the momentum going all day at the tournament designed after the Players Championship on the PGA Tour.
“I chipped in on No. 2 out of the bunker, so that kind of got me going and got me excited,” Wyatt said. “I made a good putt on No. 3 which kept the momentum going.”
Wyatt is ranked No. 10 in the Golfweek/Titleist Junior rankings, and already has one AJGA victory on his resume, the Club Car Junior in 2007.
Jim Liu, the 13-year-old from Smithtown, N.Y., finished the day at 3 under and sits in second alone. Two more players, Blake Biddle of St. Charles, Ill., and Anton Arboleda, of La Canada, Calif., are tied for third at 2 under. Seven players came in at 1-under 71.
