It’s the Walker – not Runner – Cup
ARDMORE, Pa. – Got to Merion Golf Club for the first time this week around 6:30 Wednesday evening, long after both Walker Cup teams had finished their private morning practice sessions.
I got here slowly, considering Philadelphia’s rush-hour traffic and an overabundance of 25-mph speed-limit signs in the surrounding area. It also was raining steadily, which had grounds crew members scurrying.
The rain lightened up for about 20 minutes but started again as darkness fell over the course.
And so my plan to walk a few holes tonight and soak up the early atmosphere lost in a soakfest to Mother Nature, 3 and 1.
Alas, a slow start to the week for me here at the Walker – not Runner – Cup.
