Gold Mountain does it right

BREMERTON, Wash. – This is my second trip to Gold Mountain Golf Club, and once again their support of college golf is as good as anywhere I have been. This time, it’s the PING/Golfweek Invitational. Once you turn onto the property, signs on the winding drive leading to the clubhouse immediately let you know there is an event here worth taking notice of.
For the past few days, a scoreboard has been in place that reads:
Come watch world No. 1 amateur Nick Taylor
Walker Cuppers Morgan Hoffmann, Bud Cauley, Peter Uihlein
NCAA individual champ Matt Hill
NCAA team champ Texas A&M
During today’s practice round, players were greeted on the 8th tee box by ladies grilling hot dogs. Once tournament play gets started, each group will have a walking scorer.
During the 2008 NCAA West Regional, I was informed there were more than 170 volunteers. Judging by how things have gotten started at this event, it looks as if Gold Mountain is off to duplicating its performance from a couple of years ago.
