MTSU wins Mason Rudolph in dramatic playoff

Middle Tennessee rallied Sunday to win the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate in a playoff over South Carolina at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
The Blue Raiders, who started the final round of the rain-shortened 36-hole event in a tie for eighth place, stormed to the top of the leaderboard with an 11-under 273 in the final round. Junior Jason Millard shot a 5-under 66, and seniors Hunter Green and Craig Smith chipped in 68 and 67, respectively. After bogeys on Nos. 16 and 17, sophomore Brad Simons eagled the par-5 18th to shoot 72.
MTSU and South Carolina, tied at 12-under 556 after 36 holes, played the first extra hole – the par-4 10th – in 1 over. On the second playoff hole, the Blue Raiders played the par-5 18th in 4 under to top South Carolina, which played it in 2 under.
Arkansas State (285) finished a shot back at 11-under 557.
Mississippi’s Jonathan Randolph shot rounds of 64-67 to win the individual title by five shots. The junior finished at 11-under 131 for his first college victory. Vanderbilt’s Ryan Hasselden and South Carolina’s Patrick Rada tied for second.
Georgia Tech, No. 17 in Golfweek’s preseason rankings, finished fourth.
Middle Tennessee opened the season with a sixth-place finish at Golfweek’s Conference Challenge at Blue Top Ridge in Riverside, Iowa.
