Augusta James, No. 37 in Golfweek’s rankings for the Class of 2011, has given a verbal commitment to N.C. State. James also made unofficial visits to Texas A&M, TCU, Ohio State and Tennessee.
James, a junior at Napanee (Ontario, Canada) District Secondary School in said she liked visiting as many schools as possible because all the visits made her final decision easier, as she could compare and contrast which schools had what.
“I thought it really helped because it showed me everything that’s out there,” James said.
The facilities at each school were among those deciding factors.
James finally decided on N.C. State because she thought “it had the best of everything.”
The Bath, Ontario, native appears to be right at home in the Southeast after firing a 1-over par 73 in the qualifying round of the Palmetto High School Championship April 1. James turned in the low girls’ score in the boys’ tournament, and was T-11 in the 276-player field. She also has one AJGA win, and finished in the top 10 twice in 2009.
