Ogilvie has Georgia, Hawaii on his mind

With a win this week at the Shell Houston Open, Joe Ogilvie would automatically qualify for next week's Masters and the season-opening SBS Championship at Kapalua.

HUMBLE, Texas – With a second-round 67 to move into contention at the Shell Houston Open, Joe Ogilvie has Georgia on his mind. His family? They may be thinking the surf could be up in Hawaii in January.

Ogilvie needs to win this week to earn the final exemption into the Masters. Doing so also would secure a berth in the winners-only SBS Championship at Kapalua, which he said would be the preference of his two daughters.

“Augusta, Ga.,” Ogilvie said. “The beaches aren’t as good as Kapalua.”

Ogilvie hasn’t played in the Masters since missing the cut in 2006. He said a spot in the first major would be foremost on his mind, but a family vacation next January to Kapalua would be welcomed, too.

“They have it planned,” Ogilvie said. “I’m just not a part of it yet.”
