Hicks (No. 87, 2010) commits to Tulsa
Saturday, April 3, 2010
Mark Hicks, No. 87 in Golfweek's rankings for the class of 2010, has verbally committed to Tulsa. The Bermuda Dunes, Calif., resident also made unofficial visits to Pepperdine, UC Irvine, Princeton and Columbia.
Hicks, a senior at La Quinta (Calif.) High, the winning team at the Palmetto High School Championship April 3, said he was sold on Tulsa after visiting the school.
“I got there, and the campus was amazing,'' he said. "They had great facilities, and last year they had the U.S. Am at both their home courses. They’re putting a lot of money into the golf program, too, which is a nice sign.”
One of the biggest sticking points for Hicks came on the football field, however. Hicks wanted the whole Division I school package, and Tulsa delivered.
“They have a better football team than the other schools I was looking at,” he said.
Hicks will be a long way from home in Tulsa, but said he has family nearby and also just loves the area.
“Oklahoma is a nice place,'' he said. "Everybody is nice, good golf courses. It’s just the total package.''
