North Florida claims BancorpSouth title

North Florida dove 10 shots under par in the final round of the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate Tuesday to win by one shot over Florida.
The Ospreys, ranked No. 23 by Golfweek, were down seven shots entering Tuesday’s final round at Reunion Golf and Country Club in Madison, Miss. All five players turned in rounds under par as the team climbed two spots up the leaderboard to claim its second team title of the year. Four of North Florida’s players finished in the top 10 individually.
North Florida finished at 18-under 346 with No. 10 Florida another shot back. Host Mississippi was in third at 3-under 861 and Memphis was next at 8-over 872.
In the individual race, Florida claimed the top two spots in seniors Tyson Alexander and Tim McKenney. Alexander finished the tournament at 11-under 205 after a blazing 8-under 64 to start the week. He had seven birdies, an eagle and just one bogey during that round. McKenney opened the tournament one shot better with his bogey-free 9-under 63, but lost two shots to his teammate in the final round with an even-par 72 to finish one shot back.
Santa Clara red-shirt junior Scott Travers was alone in third at 6-under 210. North Florida took the next three spots, with seniors Jordan Gribb and J.C. Horne tying for fourth at 5-under 211, and sophomore Sean Dale coming in sixth another shot back.
