OneAsia, the fast-growing professional tour serving the Asia-Pacific region, announced April 18 the appointment of Sang Y. Chun, president and CEO of SBS International, as its chairman and commissioner.
Most recently, Chun helped negotiate the company’s 10-year sponsorship deal of the SBS Championship on the PGA Tour.
According to a statement released by OneAsia, Chun has 20 years of experience in media-rights procurement and has relationships with numerous media and sports properties, including the PGA Tour, LPGA, ESPN and the International Olympic committee.
“In his role as chairman and commissioner of OneAsia, Sang Chun will play a pivotal role in growing OneAsia and strengthening its ties across the region as well as around the world, and he has the full support of the China Golf Association in driving this,” said Zhang Xiaoning, executive vice president and secretary general of the China Golf Association.
This year, OneAsia is scheduled to stage 11 tournaments for a total of $13 million in prize money. The tour’s long-term goal is to provide players in Asia with an alternative pathway to the PGA Tour and the European Tour.
Said Chun: “I truly believe in the OneAsia vision to develop an elite-playing pathway right here in Asia, a true force in international golf that in time will sit comfortable beside the PGA Tour. And I am very excited at the opportunity to assist OneAsia on this journey.”
