Illinois State won the Missouri Valley Conference title by 14 shots Tuesday, the third consecutive year the Redbirds have claimed the conference crown.

Illinois State, which finished at 45-over 909, had three players in the top 5 at Rolling Hills Country Club in Newburgh, Ind.

Drake was second at 923 and Indiana State was third at 934.

The 14-shot margin of victory was the conference championship’s largest in five years and Illinois State became the second school in MVC history to win three straight titles.

“This championship was a combination of shear talent and an immense amount of heart,” said coach Darby Sligh. “It’s one thing to talk about winning championships, but it’s a different story to have a group unite as one year after year and accomplish their biggest goals.”

Redbirds senior Laura Harris finished runner-up at 6-over 222, senior Stacey Miller (224) was third and senior Marisa Milligan (226) was fourth.

Drake senior Olivia Lansing won the individual title at 3-over 219. She also won the MVC title as a sophomore.

The Redbirds will compete next at an NCAA regional May 6.
