Texas State set school and Southland Conference scoring records by posting a 33-over 885 total to win the Southland Conference Championship at Ravens Nest Golf Club.
Texas State, No. 98 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, entered the final round trailing second-round leader Sam Houston State by 15 shots. The Bearkats slipped in the final round with a 25-over 309, while Texas State posted the low 18-hole round of the championship – 8-over 292. Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas were two shots back.
“I am so proud of our comeback today,” Texas State coach Mike Akers said. “Fifteen shots is a lot in one round to overcome, but the team was focused and believed they could do it.”
Texas State’s 885 shattered a former record set by the 2008 Bobcats by 22 strokes. This marks the third Southland title for Texas State and ties Lamar for most women’s golf titles.
Central Arkansas’ Rebecca Sorensen won the individual title by six shots with rounds of 70-70-73 for an even-par 213.
