GREENSBORO, Ga. – South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier will be looking to retain golf bragging rights when he competes against rival coaches in the Chick-fil-A Challenge at Reynolds Plantation resort on Lake Oconee.
The annual event on Tuesday pairs coaches with a celebrity or former athlete from the coach’s school. At stake will be $400,000 in scholarship funds.
South Carolina’s Spurrier and Sterling Sharpe have won the event two straight years.
The field includes eight Atlantic Coast Conference coaches, including Georgia Tech’s Paul Johnson, who will play with Jon Barry. New Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher will play with Terrell Buckley.
Alabama’s Nick Saban, one of four Southeastern Conference coaches, will play with Steve Sloan.
Tuesday’s event will be taped by ESPN for a broadcast this summer.
