Wednesday, August 25, 2010
Alex Carpenter, of Westerville, Ohio, has given a verbal commitment to play college golf for Florida Southern beginning in the fall of 2011. Carpenter is No. 119 in Golfweek’s Junior Rankings for the class of 2011.
A senior at St. Charles Preparatory, Carpenter also considered Xavier, Michigan and Kent State. He is looking forward to continuing his golf career in a Southern climate, believing it will help him take his game to the next level.
“I chose Florida Southern because I really liked Coach (Doug) Gordin, the campus, the golf program’s history and the ability to play year-round,” Carpenter said. “I know that at Florida Southern I will be contending for a (Division II) national title every year.”
Carpenter won the 2010 Hudson Junior Invitational, and has two top-5 finishes in AJGA events this summer. In 2009, Carpenter helped lead his high school team to a Division I state championship.
