Gulbis to play LPGA event in Arkansas
Monday, February 14, 2011
Natalie Gulbis had planned to play in everything. Given the LPGA’s lean schedule, that’s really not an outrageous intention. Still, Gulbis’ body wouldn’t cooperate. She withdrew from the Ricoh Women’s British Open last month citing back pain.
Gulbis said in an e-mail Aug. 23 that “she decided to take a few weeks off to make sure my game and back is good for the last stretch.” LPGA fans will be happy to know the 27-year-old plans to make her next appearance Sept. 10-12 at the P&G NW Arkansas Championship. She practiced last weekend in Las Vegas while the tour was in Oregon. After Arkansas, she’ll resume a full fall schedule that includes the Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge.
Gulbis’ up-and-down year was highlighted by a T-14 at the U.S. Women’s Open, where she held off practicing until Wednesday to save her back.
She has yet to crack the top 10 this season and is 51st on the money list with $130,439.
