Lander to add women’s golf in fall 2011

Thursday, August 26, 2010

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Lander is adding women’s golf to its athletic program, joining four other programs in the Peach Belt Conference.

Athletic director Jeff May said on Thursday the growing interest in high school women’s golf in South Carolina and across the country led school officials to add the sport.

May says four schools in the NCAA Division II conference have added women’s golf in the past two years and the conference held its first championship in the sport last spring.

Lander says the women’s team will start in the fall of 2011. May said men’s golf coach Chipper Bagwell will also lead the women’s team. readers: We value your input and welcome your comments, but please be respectful in this forum.
