Miller opened with an eagle at Fox Den Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn., then added four birdies to get to 6 under. A Stanford graduate, Miller has one top-3 finish this year and two top-10 finishes.
Daly also got off to a hot start at Fox Den with an eagle on the first hole, but bogeyed Nos. 5 and 6 to go back to even par. He made four birdies in five holes after making the turn but fell one shot short of Miller.
Joining Daly at 5-under 67 were Kirk Triplett, David Hearn, William McGirt, Justin Peters, Skip Kendall, Robert Damron and Andrew Svoboda.
