Lloyd (NR, 2012) commits to Virginia
Friday, December 17, 2010
Alex Lloyd, of Virginia Beach, Va., has given a verbal commitment to play golf for Virginia in the fall of 2012.
As a kid, Lloyd had always had his heart set on attending Wake Forest, but also made unofficial visits to Auburn and Virginia. He was particularly impressed with Virginia coach Bowen Sargent, so much so that he decided to become a Cavalier.
“He’s a really friendly guy, but also he’s a hard worker and he’s going to push me in the right direction,” Lloyd said. “When you’re a freshman in college, you need a little structure.”
In addition to Sargent, Lloyd also was impressed by the campus, the university course (Birdwood Golf Course) and the presence of mental coach Bob Rotella.
Lloyd will join 2011 recruits Denny McCarthy, Ji Soo Park and Nick Tremps.
“Their team’s going to be looking really good,” Lloyd said.
Lloyd finished fifth at the Eastern Amateur over the summer, and won the individual title at the Virginia State High School 3A Championship. He has one career AJGA victory.
