Blayne Barber holds a slim lead after the second round of the Jones Cup Invitational. The Auburn sophomore is at 3-over 147 after two rounds at the Ocean Forest Golf Club in Sea Island, Ga., and is holding off three players who are just one shot back.

Barber, the current Florida State Amateur and St. Augustine Amateur champion, put up a 2-over 74 Saturday on a windy but otherwise clear day. Augusta State sophomore Patrick Reed, Alabama sophomore Hunter Hamrick and France’s Victor Dubuisson are at 4-over 148. Dubuisson and Stiggy Hodgson, a member of the 2009 GB&I Walker Cup team, recorded the rounds of the day with 2-under 70s.

First-round leader Philip McLean followed a 69 with a 9-over 81 in Round 2 and fell to fifth.

In a strong amateur field, two players who have had recent junior success also are making a run at the title. Romain Wattel, who won the Junior Orange Bowl on Dec. 30, and Bobby Wyatt, the 2009 Junior Players champion who has committed to Alabama for next fall, are tied for seventh at 7-over 151.
