PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – We’ve arrived to Champions Room D/E at the Marriott at Sawgrass just down the road from TPC Sawgrass, where Tiger will perform his talk at 11 a.m. EST. (Apologies to all you “Price is Right” fans out there.) Surprisingly, there is no big top outside. The place is set up as if a wedding is about to take place – maybe Adam Sandler will sing – and it didn’t take long to encounter our first brush with capitalism at work here in the land of the PGA Tour Giant.
Wireless internet is available at the ballroom is available for a tidy sum of $100 – unless you’re a guest here, and we are not. Actually, we’ve been told the normal Internet connection fee for non-guests is $250. Good to know someone is doing well in this economy.
In other words, Starbucks it ain’t. So I’m thinking about holding a makeshift bake sale to raise some quick funds. Better yet, think they’d object to me selling Tiger Jam XIV t-shirts in the lobby?
As for Tiger's talk, there's roughly a couple hundred folks or so gathered already, and the speculation is endless. We've heard 5-7 minutes, we’ve heard maybe double that. We've heard MJ was going to be here (his people now say he is not) and that Elin Woods will not. I must say, it's pretty strange being a mile from the event. Who else utilizes a set up like this? NASA for a big launch, maybe.
Ah, nothing quite like following the Tiger Mystery Tour.
