Roig (No. 6, 2011) commits to UCLA

Kyle Roig, No. 6 in the Golfweek Junior Rankings in the class of 2011, has committed to UCLA. Roig had made unofficial visits to both UCLA and Arizona State, but chose the California school in the end because “it just clicked.”
“It was really, really difficult,” Roig said of the decision. “It was between Arizona State and UCLA. Arizona State’s coach is great, and the team I get along with really well. I just thought I fit in more at UCLA, like I saw myself in California.”
The move to Los Angeles will be a long one for Roig, who lives in Pembroke Pines, Fla. She has family near the school, however, and her mother also attended school in California.
Roig’s game has seen big improvements in 2010. She won the Harder Hall in a playoff with Alexis Thompson Jan. 9, which boosted her confidence and gave her a new perspective on the game.
“It just gave me the trust I have the ability to win every event I play, even though there’s good players,” she said. “You just have to have a good week.”
