After going five years without a victory, North Texas shot a 17-over 585 to win the J.L. Lewis Intercollegiate.

Bad weather Tuesday in New Braunfels, Texas, caused the tournament to be cut to 36 holes.

North Texas senior Peter Fallon shot even-par 142 to win the individual title and spearhead the Mean Green’s team victory. Fallon, a junior college transfer, picked up his first D-I victory. He edged out Texas Arlington’s Zack Fischer, No. 41 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, by two strokes.

Three UNT players finished in the top 15, including freshmen Carlos Ortiz (148) and Marco Scarola (149). Scarola overcame a first-round quadruple bogey on No. 13 to tie for 13th.

Led by a 3-over 145 effort by Michael Buttacavoli, Rice shot 24 over to take second place.

North Texas’ last title came at the Rice Intercollegiate in February 2005. The last individual win for a UNT player also came in 2005.
