No desert revenge for Stricker
Friday, January 15, 2010
Steve Stricker will not have a chance to avenge his loss at the Bob Hope Classic this year. The three-time winner in 2009 will return instead to the frozen tundra of Wisconsin versus the warm weather of the desert.
The decision was easy for Stricker. After playing two weeks in Hawaii, he was unwilling to play a third.
“I play probably five events on the West Coast and I didn’t want to throw in an extra one,” Stricker said of his schedule. “It was either Phoenix or (Bob Hope).”
A tired Stricker even paused after mentioning Phoenix and was unsure if he would play that week either.
Leading Pat Perez by three shots going into the final round of the Hope last year, Stricker shot a 77 – which included a triple and a quad – and tied for third as Perez won by three.
Expect to see Stricker at the Northern Trust Open and WGC-Accenture Match Play before the Florida Swing.
