Sybase is back.
The LPGA announced the addition of the Sybase Match Play Championship, to be played May 20-23 at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, N.J.
The Sybase Match Play, an official LPGA event, will invite 64 players to compete for $1.5 million. The winner’s share will be $375,000, tied for the third-largest payout on tour. Golf Channel will broadcast Friday through Sunday in the four-day event.
“We’re pleased that Sybase has enabled the LPGA to bring a prestigious women’s golf event back to the Greater New York area,” LPGA commissioner Mike Whan said in a statement released Jan. 26 through the tour. “It is especially gratifying to continue the momentum that the LPGA has been enjoying since the end of last season, thanks to great partners like Sybase and Octagon.”
Sybase has had a long-standing partnership with the LPGA. It title-sponsored the Sybase Classic from 2001 through 2009.
“Sybase is excited to extend our partnership with the LPGA by sponsoring the Sybase Match Play Championship,” said John Chen, Sybase’s chairman and chief executive officer.
Hamilton Farm Golf Club hosted the 2005 and ’06 HSBC Women’s World Match Play Championship.
