Mai (No. 35, 2011) commits to Northwestern
Thursday, July 8, 2010
Brittany Mai, No. 35 in Golfweek’s rankings for the class of 2011, has verbally committed to Northwestern. Mai, of Poway, Calif., also considered UCLA, USC, Cal-Berkeley, Stanford and UC Davis.
Mai was impressed with the team members and the coaches at Northwestern, and, with an interest in Pre-med, the academic reputation was also important. She predicts big things for the future of the program.
“I really believe Northwestern has a really strong foundation in place,” she said.
Illinois is a long way from her California home, but Mai is excited for the change.
Mai recently won the Southern California Junior PGA Championship and will play in the Junior PGA Championship at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind., next month. She also was the first alternate at the U.S. Women’s Open sectional qualifier in Industry Hills, Calif.
