Meghan Spero, a former University of Iowa standout, has been named the new women’s golf coach at Florida Gulf Coast. Spero will replace Brittany Bertilson, who announced her resignation on May 3 after two successful seasons.

Spero was a four-year letter winner for the Hawkeyes (1997-2001), and has been an assistant professional at Grey Oaks Country Club in Naples, Fla., since 2002. Spero also played on the Duramed Futures Tour in 2003.

“We are delighted to have Meghan joining our FGCU Athletics Family,” said Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh. “She possesses a wealth of high quality playing and teaching experience, as well as astute knowledge of our Southwest Florida community. We look forward to her continuing to build upon the solid foundation that was laid by Coach Bertilson, in our pursuit of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.”

Florida Gulf Coast finished the season ranked No. 127 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings.
