ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – British golf fans appear starved for a sunburn. Any time the sun comes out here at British Open, they seem to shed their clothes faster than a strip tease artist.
People often crave what they can’t have, and the term summer sun is something of a non sequitur here in eastern Scotland. In the middle of July, overcast is often the color of the day and the temperature can easily dip into the 50s.
Add wind and rain, and British golf takes on a character all its own. There is no other major championship as distinctive as the British Open.
