ADA, Mich. – Justin Thomas has tied the record for lowest nine-hole score at the U.S. Junior Amateur, carding a 6-under 30 on the back nine at Egypt Valley Country Club to take the clubhouse lead at 8-under 136.

Thomas, of Goshen, Ky., made the turn in 1-over 37, but made four birdies and chipped in for eagle on the par-5 17th to shoot 67 in the second round. His back-nine 30 matched the lowest nine-hole score at the Junior Amateur, a feat last achieved by Jorge Fernandez Valdes at Shoal Creek in 2008.

Last August, Thomas, then 16, became the third-youngest player to make the cut at a PGA Tour event, when he played the weekend at the Wyndham Championship. He also won Terra Cotta Invitational earlier this year.
