Michael Putnam backed up an opening-round 67 with a 2-under 69 on Friday to take a one-shot lead at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Invitational in Columbus, Ohio.

Putnam made just one bogey at Ohio State University’s Scarlet Course – at the par-4 ninth – and added three birdies to carry into the weekend a one-shot lead over Scott Brown (72), Nick Flanagan (71), Alistair Presnell (69) and Camilo Benedetti (70).

Jonathan Kaye, who took the first-round lead with an 8-under 63, slipped back to 14th with a 76 on Friday.

University of Georgia’s Russell Henley shot 70 to move into a tie for sixth and lead the amateur contingent in Columbus.
