Oxfordshire GC adds hotel, new caddie service

Thame, England – The Oxfordshire, a 50-room hotel and spa northwest of London near the M40 motorway, opened this month, complementing the existing Oxfordshire Golf Club.
The hotel has 46 executive rooms and four penthouse suites, function space for up to 190 guests, and the Tempus spa, which includes a swimming pool and fitness center.
Also this month, The Oxfordshire Golf Club, a 1993 Rees Jones design, began offering golfers the translation services of Oxford University language students. The student will accompany players and caddies, translate caddie’s comments for international guests, and discuss the history of the area and what it’s like to be an Oxford student. The translation service is $370 per round.

Scottsdale, Ariz. – Troon Golf has added several properties to its management portfolio. They include: Silverado Country Club & Resort, a 36-hole, 1,200-acre property in Napa, Calif.; Ms Club, which is scheduled to open in September 2011 in Seoul, South Korea; and Las Colinas Golf & Country Club, a new public course on Spain’s Mediterranean coast.
Troon also has agreed to oversee construction and operation of The Dunes Port Hughes resort and residential development near Adelaide, Australia.

Wilmington, N.C. – Perry Golf bolstered its golf cruise options by adding a trip down the River Thames on a luxury, 116-foot barge called Magna Carta.
The barge accommodates a maximum of eight guests in its four staterooms for the six-night cruise. The courses included on the trip are: Sunningdale, The Berkshire, Walton Heath and Hampton Court Palace GC.
Prices per person range from $4,525 to $6,625.

Orlando, Fla. – Marriott Golf was hired to manage Toftrees Golf Club in State College, Pa.
Marriott Golf also announced that Andy Ragsdale, superintendent at The Ritz Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, was recognized as the company’s golf grounds manager of the year. Willow Crest GC, located at the Oak Brook Hills (Ill.) Marriott Resort, was named the company’s property of the year.

Elsewhere – Silver Creek Golf Club, a new Hills/Forrest and Associates course, has opened all 18 holes for play in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. . . . Half Moon Bay (Calif.) Golf Links opened five new tee boxes on The Ocean Course as part of its “links enhancement” program. . . . The Hank Haney Golf Academy has been established at Mission Hills – Haikou on Hainan Island in China. . . . Hot Stix Golf, the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based company, has opened a fitting center at Bayonet Black Horse in Seaside, Calif. . . . Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., hired Damien Craft as spa director. . . . OB Sports appointed Randy Weigman to serve as director of golf at Lodestone Golf Club, which opened in June. Weigman previously worked for two OB Sports-managed facilities in Nevada.
