Steven Bowditch and Kyle Thompson opened with 8-under 63s to take the first-round lead at the Nationwide Tour’s Cox Classic, played at Champions Run in Omaha, Neb.
Bowditch closed with a 6-under 30 on his final nine, making birdies on five of his final six holes. Thompson, meanwhile, opened in 30, birdieing five of his final six holes on the front side.
Kevin Chappell, No. 4 on the Nationwide Tour’s money list, is part of a three-way tie for third at 7-under. Joining Chappell at 64 were Scott Gardiner and Matt Marshall.
Oklahoma State’s Morgan Hoffmann, who finished in the Top 25 last week at Columbus, shot 6-under 65 Thursday to grab a share of 6th.
