Jon Reehoorn has been named the head coach at Oregon State, the school announced Friday. Reehoorn arrives at Oregon State after spending the last three years at Idaho, first as the associate head coach for the men’s and women’s programs, and the past two seasons as head coach for the men’s program.

Reehoorn, who will receive a four-year contract, replaces Brian Watts, who left after nine seasons to coach at the U.S. Military Academy. Watts had directed the Beavers to four straight trips to the NCAA regionals and a 16th-place finish at the 2010 NCAA Championship.

Oregon State finished the 2009-10 season No. 23 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings.

“I can’t wait to get to Corvallis, get my feet on the ground and begin building on what Brian (Watts) has already established and develop relationships with each of the student-athletes as quickly as possible,” Reehoorn said. “I aim to produce student-athletes that Oregon State and Beaver Nation can be proud of long after they graduate.”

At Idaho, Reehoorn helped Idaho to new heights as it finished in the top half of the Western Athletic Conference all three years of his tenure, including a school-best third-place finish in 2009.

“We are very excited to add coach Reehoorn to our Beaver Nation family,” said Oregon State athletic director Bob De Carolis. “His roots to the Pacific Northwest and the Pac-10 Conference run long and true. He has had good success at both Washington and Idaho, and his life story of walk-on to all-conference status underscores our brand of developing champions, who come with exceptional potential and leave as extraordinary achievers.”
