Thompson, Chappell locked atop Cox Classic
Kyle Thompson backed up his opening 63 with a 6-under 65 on Friday to hold onto a share of the lead at the Cox Classic at Champions Run.
Thomspon is tied with Kevin Chappell, who finished with his second consecutive 64. Both players hold a two-shot lead over Steven Bowditch and Bob May, who vaulted up 20 spots on the leaderboard with a second-round 63.
After a bogey-free first round on Thursday, Thompson’s ride was a bit bumpier on Friday, as he went birdie, bogey, eagle, bogey on his final four holes to finish in 34.
Oklahoma State’s Morgan Hoffmann, who finished in the top 10 last week at Columbus and earned a place in this week’s field, shot 4-under 67 to pair with his opening 65. Hoffmann sits in a 9-way tie for eighth.
