Curtis Cup needs more than just claps

MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA, Mass. – With today marking the start of both the Curtis Cup and the world’s most popular sports event – the World Cup – I am a little bummed here at Essex County Club.
This is an international competition. Fans ventured from across the pond to watch their fellow countrywomen represent, and they need to start letting everyone know.
Crowds have been polite. There have been some claps here and there, but nothing that would resemble crowds of the Walker Cup.
Where are the roars? Where are the, “U-S-A, all the way!” or the “Here we go lassies, take it to the patriots!” chants? Instead, the traditional golf clap is the major form of celebration.
If this Curtis Cup is going to be exciting, we need to see and hear the crowds. I know this isn’t the World Cup, but it is still international competition. The players are all here, but now it’s time the fans show up as well.
