Rookie diary: Maintaining a busy schedule

Considering my last actual tournament was the LET event in Germany, (besides U.S. Women’s Open qualifying), it feels like I haven’t actually competed in a while. The time off has been great, but I am still trying to learn what the best schedule is for me personally. I haven’t really been able to get into a good flow of things yet for the season, but hopefully I will be able to do that before too long.

This past Monday, I attempted to qualify for the State Farm LPGA tournament in Springfield, Ill. I was extremely encouraged by the way I was hitting the ball, but still struggled with my putting a bit and did not earn a spot in the tournament.

As soon as I got in from the round, I loaded up the car with my mom, said goodbye to my dad (who will be caddying for Sandra Gal in the next five events) and made my way to Mason, Ohio for the Futures Tour event this weekend.

As soon as we made it to town, I headed to the course to work on my putting. Luckily, the RIFE rep is in town this week and gave me a few new putters to try, so hopefully I will get comfortable again and light it up this weekend!

Blackwelder’s Rookie Diary

Ever wonder what life is like for a LPGA rookie? Well, Mallory Blackwelder is here to tell you. Blackwelder, 22, will file a weekly diary on Golfweek.com to give you an insider’s view of life on the LPGA, LET and Duramed Futures Tour. Follow her on Twitter at twitter.com/MalBlackwelder.

As I mentioned before, I am trying to figure out the most ideal schedule for the rest of the season, and I am beginning to see the multiple options I have as both a blessing and a curse. I am thankful to have status on all three tours, but it makes decisions about scheduling difficult, and I am already an indecisive person, so that doesn’t help the situation.

As of now (and don’t take my word for it because it is always changing), I will play in Mason this weekend, then head to Atlantic City to Monday qualify for the ShopRite. Then, depending on what happens there, I will possibly play the Ohio Women’s Open June 21-22 in Defiance, Ohio to keep my game sharp and have a tournament I can definitely play before the Jamie Farr.

I originally thought I was going to play the LET event in Switzerland next week, but decided that traveling over there for one week did not make sense.

After the Jamie Farr, I am tentatively planning on playing a CN Canadian Women’s Tour event, a few Futures Tour events, and then heading back over seas to play some LET events.

As you can tell, my plans are constantly changing and that is honestly one of the things giving me the most trouble. I am a girl who likes to have a plan and stick to it, but unfortunately with my LPGA status, it is very difficult to know exactly what is the right thing to do.

Right now, I am trying to just focus on the present and focus on the event this weekend in Mason, and then go from there and take things one day and one shot at a time!
